RIC VI, THESSALONICA [before 43], GALERIUS MAXIMIAN, UNLISTED FOR RULER

OBVERSE

MAXIMIA-NVSPFAVG [MAXIMIANVS P F AVG]; head r., laur.

REVERSE

IOVICONSE-RVATORI [IOVI CONSERVATORI]; Jupiter stg. l., chlamys hanging from l. shoulder, r. holding thunderbolt, l. leaning on sceptre. Reversed sigma in right field. •SM•TS• in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED FOR RULER. Type attested in RIC only for Licinius [THESSALONICA 43 (BM R.140, 5.24 g)]. Note also similarity in obv. legend pattern [LICINIVS P F AVG]. Both coins belong to the same issue, obviously minted before Galerius' death, and therefore should be moved to the Group III. Not listed in Depeyrot.
