RIC VII, LONDON [after 272], CONSTANTINE I, UNLISTED OBVERSE LEGEND

OBVERSE

CONSTA-NTINVSA [CONSTANTINVS A (sic!)]; bust r., laur., wearing trabea, eagle-tipped sceptre in r. hand.

REVERSE

BEATTRA-NQLITAS [BEAT TRANQLITAS]; globe on altar inscribed VOT/IS/XX in three lines; above, three stars. PLON in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED OBVERSE LEGEND. Specimen similar to LONDON 271 except for ...A at end of obv. legend instead of ...AG. Not expected for official issue, so it is probably an engraver's error or a good ancient imitation. Note also that the difference between busts K2 and K3 is sometimes not obvious (see: CORRIGENDA, VOL. VII, p. 90). Not attested in Cloke-Toone. Should be listed as an accidental variant of LONDON 271 or after LONDON 272.

NOTES

Weight 1.71 g; diameter 20 mm. From Roma Numismatics eSale 35 (lot 1535), May 2017.
