RIC VII, LYONS 246, CONSTANTINOPOLIS, ENGRAVER'S ERROR [IRREGULAR COIN]

CONSTAN-TINOPOLI [CONSTANTINOPOLI (sic!)]; bust l., laur. helmet, wearing imperial cloak, reversed spear.

REVERSE

Victory stg. l., on prow, holding spear aand shield. •PLG in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

ENGRAVER'S ERROR. Specimen similar to LYONS 246 except for obv. legend: CONSTANTINOPOLI instead of CONSTANTINOPOLIS. Could be an engraver's error. Note that variety CONSTANTINOPOLI is a correct legend in Heraclea, Constantinople, Nicomedia and Cyzicus. See also Bruun's footnote 246 on p. 138: "A slightly lighter specimen in Ox, off. P, obv. legend CONSTANT-INOPOLI". Possibly an ancient imitation.
