RIC VII, TICINUM [after 162], CONSTANTINE II, UNLISTED BUST TYPE AND REVERSE LEGEND [IRREGULAR COIN]

OBVERSE

CONSTANTINVSIVNNOC [CONSTANTINVS IVN NO (sic!) C]; head r., laur. (with fold of drapery?, sceptre?).

REVERSE

CAESNVMNOSTRONVM [CAESNVM (sic!) NOSTRONVM (sic!)]; laurel wreath enclosing VOT/X. QT in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED BUST TYPE AND REVERSE LEGEND. Bust type is hard to describe and definitely not attested in RIC. Could be also a clumsy imitation of bust type B3 (dr., cuir., seen from back). Rev. legend CAESNVM NOSTRONVM instead of DOMINOR • NOSTROR • CAESS (cf. Bruun's remarks after footnote 160 on p. 380). Note also errors in both legends. Obviously an ancient imitation.

NOTES

Weight 2.60 g; diameter 18 mm. Coin sold on eBay in January 2018 for EUR 9.56.
