REVERSE

PRINCIPIIVVE-NTVTIS [PRINCIPI IVVENTVTIS]; Prince stg. facing, head l., cloak hanging from l. shoulder, r. holding globe, l. reversed spear. Star in right field. PLN in exergue.

UNLISTED BUST TYPE - CC. Not attested for obv. legend 1d (p. 137). For this bust type see CORRIGENDA, VOL. VI, p. 134. Listed in Huvelin (no. 130-130a; bust described as cuirassed). Listed in Saint-Colombier-en-Sarzeau Hoard (p. 84, no. 3580). Listed in Cloke-Toone but two variants are attested: with bust cuirassed only (7.07.016) and with bust cuirassed and draped (7.07.018). Note, however, that the alleged drapery seen on some specimens could be regarded as balteus, shoulder belt used to suspend sword or to support shield. Coin should be listed in RIC after LONDINIUM 226.

Weight 4.41 g; diameter 22.5 mm. Probably (7.07.018). Coin sold on eBay in May 2006 for USD 52.64; sold on eBay in July 2008 for USD 420; sold on CNG Feature Sale 120 (lot 942) in May 2022 for USD 1,100.
