RIC VI, ROMA [after 56], GALERIUS MAXIMIAN, UNLISTED FOR RULER [...CAES]

OBVERSE

MA[X]IMIANV-SNOBCAES [MAXIMIANVS NOB CAES]; bust r., laur., dr., cuir., seen from front.

REVERSE

PRINC-IP-IIV-VENTVT [PRINCIPI IVVENTVT]; prince stg. l. in military dress, r. holding standard, l. leaning on long sceptre.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED FOR RULER. RIC lists this type only for Constantius. Prince on rev. is described in RIC as "leaning on spear". Apparently should be "on long sceptre". Listed in King (p. 418, no. 52). Note that bust on no. 54 is described in King as "laur. dr., r.", but picture 54 (d) on plate 36 shows coin from the same dies as the specimen in question which apparently has bust draped and cuirassed. It suggests that King no. 52 and no. 54 are in fact identical. Coin should be listed in RIC after ROMA 56.
