NOT IN RIC
|
UNLISTED OBVERSE LEGEND. Not attested in RIC VII. On first glance this coin belongs to LYONS 51-62 issue (year 316) with Soli rev. It is not impossible, but there is a difficulty with placing fifth consulate of Constantine in year 316. See: Georges Gautier, "La mention du cinquième consulat de Constantin 1er dans le monnayage de l'atelier de Lyon en 316 ap. J.-C.: un anachronisme inexpliqué?", Schweizer Münzblätter 2015, no. 258, pp. 35-42. So maybe this type should be listed together with later issues minted after the reopening of Lyons mint (year 319; cf. LYONS 101-112 with the same m.m. and D N... obv. legends for Caesars). Not listed in Bastien Lyon (294-316) and Bastien Lyon - suppléments I-II. Should be listed in RIC before LYONS 51 or before LYONS 101.
