OBVERSE

CONSTANTIN-VSAVG [CONSTANTINVS AVG]; bust l., high-crested helmet (bowl-shaped), cuir., r. holding Victory on globe, in l. pugio or parazonium.

REVERSE

VICTORIAELAETPRINCPERP [VICTORIAE LAET PRINC PERP]; two Victories facing one another, holding shield inscribed VOT/PR over altar of varying design. Two captives in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

[CORRECTION].. Bust is marked in RIC as I9 l. (unique specimen from Vienna cited), i.e. "high-crested helmet, cuir., Victory on globe in r. hand". Actually, emperor almost certainly is holding something in l. hand; probably pugio or parazonium. Listed in Bastien Lyon (318-337) (p. 137, no. 5) with bust marked as I*1 which also omits an object in l. hand.

NOTES

Weight 2.46 g; diameter 19 mm. From the Münzkabinett of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien Collection (object no. RÖ 67924).
