CONSTANTIVS-CAESAR [CONSTANTIVS CAESAR]; head r., plain diadem, looking upwards.

REVERSE

SECVRITASPERPETVAE [SECVRITAS PERPETVAE]; prince stg. l., in military dress, leaning on sceptre, erecting trophy at the foot of which cuirass, shield. SMT in exergue.

UNLISTED ISSUE. Not attested in RIC but cf. TICINUM 49. First published in: Paul Beliën, "A previously unknown gold medallion of Constantius II Caesar from Ticinum", Numismatic Chronicle 2006, p. 233-235. Coin should be listed before TICINUM 177.

NOTES

AV medallion of 2 solidi. Weight 8.80 g; diameter 26 mm. Coin sold on Numismatica Ars Classica auction 78 (lot 1168) in May 2014 for CHF 120,000. Withdrawn from CNG Triton XVIII Session 3 (lot 1248) in January 2015 [click for picture].
